Could be, in some cases, but that depends on how we define ‘leg up’ and what those legs are reaching for exactly. “Affirmative action” has largely benefited white women. And you will never hear me say ‘a good economy justifies all things.’ So, if there are steps forward and legs up, there are too many steps backs and setbacks to make much of an impact. The police still harm Black gay men. White people still call the police on us and treat us like we’re suspicious. Being gay is not always obvious to provide any stretch to those legs. Perhaps, in some cases, men who are open or those people assume are gay may benefit. But those benefits are based on racism and the level of threat a Black man poses. Plus, class distinctions, and classism, are also factors in the legs of gay Black men. So, yeah, could be some legs up, I mention that the piece, but we need eight of those legs each.
