George, I understand my writing is challenging. I understand it’s my responsibility to make it make sense. I recognize that I fail at that task and it’s not an easy one. However, do not come to my pieces thinking you are an expert and you’re right. You’re not. Not when I’m Black; not when I’ve written over 200 pieces on Medium about race, racism, and whiteness as a full-time job, and not when I read one book a week on the subject. I include links in my essays. Read them. Read books. Ask questions if you must. This is your time to learn. I specifically recommend you read “The Abolition of White Democracy” and “The Machinery of Whiteness.” You are thinking of white as a horizontal and depoliticized identity. It’s not. It can’t be. Justice is required. Reparations are required. Unmaking whiteness is required. That has to happen at the state level and at the national level. Black and white are not the same. We have to come together — to end whiteness. White is not only inaccurate, but it’s inhumane.
