Here are a few sources because I can’t give you in a few free lines what I’ve gained by reading for hours. Books: “The Abolition of White Democracy,” Joel Olson; “White By Law,” Ian Haney-Lopez; “The Machinery of Whiteness” Steve Martinot. Essay: “On Being White and Other Lies,” James Baldwin. In short, whiteness is not a color, it’s a claim to a false purity untainted by Blackness or nonwhites. That doesn’t exist. Humans come from Africa. Whiteness is an entirely oppressive category that only comes into being to oppress. Depigmented skin color has been around for about 7,000 years. Whiteness is about 500 years old. White is a status. Race is not horizontal. Race is a hierarchy. Race is a white hierarchy. The only appropriate response to such a status is to reject it and combat it.
