Hi, Dennett. I believe you shared before that your husband is from Argentina, no? I seemed to remember that. I think we chatted about mate. I mentioned I spent a year in Buenos Aires. It took me some time to get accustomed to the nicknames and quite frankly being greeted with, “Hola, Negro.” That’s still jarring. But I’ve heard people say flaco, flaquito, gordito, rubio, I mean it could be anything and everything in Spanish! I can’t find any justification or slack for Ms. Rose. Often people her age have experienced so many changes in technology, socially, and otherwise. She’s sharp. The names for Black people have changed several times in her lifetime. I struggle to believe she’s ever said the n-word in front of Black people even as she did. I can’t imagine she’s 80 something and no one has corrected her. Well, I rarely see her. Maybe once a year if that. But I’ve never even heard her curse. I can’t imagine her cursing at our table. But in this case, she did. Hopefully, that won’t happen again.
