Hi Emily! So many great points to your response. I am with you on the cult comparison. I have a draft in my inbox with the working title — White supremacy is a cult and Donald Trump is the supreme leader. I have a strong evangelical background. I spent many years studying groups evangelicals consider cults. I spent time talking to those faith groups. I wanted to be a missionary. But I’m not like that any more. I’m ecumenical and interfaith. I lost that savior complex. So, with racism and white supremacy some of that carries over in my approach. I can’t save or convert people, but at the same time my safety, sanity, and salvation are wrapped up in theirs too. When I posted this piece, I thought people would think I’m off the rails. Haha. Maybe I am, haha. But I am totally interested in solutions. Thanks for reading and for your insights!
