Hi, Jane. I will expand on my take. However people respond to Smollett is on them. In terms of people disbelieving victims or anything else, I agree “shouldn’t doesn’t mean won’t.” However, “shouldn’t” is still the standard. Therefore, I put the weight of my outrage on those who disbelieve or take any other course of action or inaction. If one Black gay man does something wrong and people take it out on other, or all, Black gay men in any way, the weight of my outrage goes to that response, NOT the initial Black gay man who did something wrong. You understand that mindset and response has happened in history and continues? That’s like lynching all Black men because one Black man raped a white woman. I’m going to be outraged at the lynchers and the system, not the lone rapist. Instead of that, with Smollett and any fallout, the focus should be on the victims and the systems, laws, and structures that make it more difficult for them. As far as fuel on the fire, that doesn’t concern me. We already have a blaze that’s unchanged. I want people to put that out. And we can start with the White House. Smollett is not worse than Trump on America. No way. Have you seen and heard his lies, staged attacks, and hoaxes? His whole administration is a hate group and a hate crime. Lock him and them up.
