I think for my dad, the waiter/customer experience was about the connection.
He would personally deliver his tips to the server. When he paid in cash, at times, he would go up to the server and hand them cash while other servers may be gathered around. So, I did see those looks.
My dad even tipped managers, hosts/hostesses. He was excessive, and he did some work in the service industry too, so he lived on tips.
But your comment reminds me how I didn’t really address overcompensation enough in this piece. I may go back and do that. Thank you, thank you! -Sam
