Hi, Sandi Schaffer, thanks for reading and responding. I read Black Like Me, as well. I’m very interested in the current and residual effects of racism and oppression. I think the past atrocities help us to see and understand what we experience today.

I’ve always liked Michael McDonald, he was obviously the opening for this piece, but I didn’t know how this was going to end with him.

I learned a good deal about him as I was researching and writing this piece. While writing I was listening to his music and the song California Soul by Marlena Shaw 😊
