Hi, Victoria. It is a tough subject. Racism invented race. Ta-Nehisi Coates has an older piece in The Atlantic with that title. The racial categories do not make sense. They aren’t uniform entirely across the world and time. There is not biological basis. But it is here now. It has meaning. It is political as James Baldwin says in The Fire Next Time. This piece is saying white people have to redefine the term and meaning of ‘white.’ In addition to overhauling all US systems, the term ‘white’ should change to something else. This is a tricky piece. It’s loaded with nuance, and it works with the original term as intended and how it plays out in society. I appreciate you reading it.
