I don’t see intersex as a disorder. In fact, it was instrumental in dislodging my notions about religious bigotry. Because in that case, the simple rule does not apply evenly to them or others. Here’s why I see this social construct as different — I mentioned in the piece that there are 2 parts to social constructs — self-identification and social consensus. There’s both. Both are increasing. The tribe has spoken. The tribe is speaking. The US government and local governments must do more to support these realities. And this is the case in other countries.
