I recognize you. This isn’t your first time. Well, it sounds like this piece triggered you and got you heated. That’s fine. That’s good. White is a social construction of superiority marked by skin color. It is not an actual skin color. Please also know, that when I write, I don’t stand on my words and thoughts alone. I’d point you to the sociologist Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom in her book, “Thick.” She says the goal of antiracist work is to end whiteness. That’s what I’m saying here — end whiteness. I’d also point you to Ta-Nehisi Coates and his essay, “ It Was No Compliment to Call Bill Clinton the First Black President.” In that essay, he says race is not who you really are; race is what was done to you. It is a way to name before doing something. Race is a verb. My question is — are you anti-white? If not, well, that is the problem. Please also know, I have friends who have been whited and my romantic partner was whited. We’ve been together for almost five years. See, I’m not racist!
