I understand how other people see this but this is a clear one for me. With over 200 pieces on Medium about racism, this isn’t a piece I have second thoughts about. And the piece, with my other comments, are also clear. From his intent to his last book sale while alive, it was all racist. I don’t want to rehash the post but I was clear to mention that this guy wasn’t even the first! Not. The. First! I read the book again before writing this piece and I noticed how he assumed he was Black in the book. It was disingenuous which speaks to intent. Then even this guy said later that whites deferred to him in discussions about racism as opposed to Black people. Even the aftermath was racist. Did he clear this with anyone? Did he coordinate? Did he come under an organization? No. That all speaks to intent. His work was neither necessary nor helpful. Black pain doesn’t do anything good for white eyes. Whites experiencing what they consider to be Black pain doesn’t do anything good for whites. It didn’t help the Irish. Whites said they were experiencing white slavery and being treated like they were Black from the early days of the country... It did nothing for Black people. So, what I’m saying is the shortcuts whites take aren’t worth it and won’t work in the long run. I prefer and suggest the hard way. Whites need to end whiteness for themselves because they despise being white. That’s the only effective way and it doesn’t require blackface. It requires a mirror.
