I’m with you. Total overhaul. Root and branch. Specific to the impeachment, I don’t expect the GOP to vote for Thanksgiving. 😀 Although, several would’ve voted against Nixon. Some Dems voted against Clinton. Specific to whiteness, whites have a history of demonizing each other as racists. In the language of impeachment, whites can impeach other whites for whiteness and/or some aspect of whiteness. It’s happened in our history, often with mixed motives. But never fully, and obviously whiteness hasn’t been removed. There’s a long history of colorblindness and complacency with whiteness that’s at work here. Here’s a thought in the essay, The First White President, by Ta-Nehisi Coates, “It has long been an axiom among certain black writers and thinkers that while whiteness endangers the bodies of black people in the immediate sense, the larger threat is to white people themselves, the shared country, and even the whole world.” I agree with that. I also believe, based on history, that whites can implicate and impeach themselves, ending and removing whiteness has yet to happen.
