Look. I deal in the world of history, philosophy, scholarship, and the established canon of thinkers. In order to engage with me, you need to bring more than your mind. You made the error of seeing white as just another group/identity among others. James Baldwin in his essay, On Being White and Other Lies, said no community could be based on such a genocidal lie. In the book White Democracy, Joel Olson talks about race being hierarchical. It is vertical and not horizontal. It is a politicized identity, specifically invented for oppression and it is sustained by oppression. When you make white just another identity among others, you depoliticize it prematurely. You depoliticize it without justice. That egalitarianism serves to reinforce whiteness. I recommend also the book The Machinery of Whiteness by Steve Martinot. Whiteness, being white, is a claim to purity. It is a negation by its definition and construction. Oppression and attempts to be the most white are inherent to whiteness, and that makes it very, very different. Toni Morrison told Charlie Rose, if you can only be tall when someone else is on their knees, then you have a serious problem. And my feeling is that white people have a very, very serious problem. Hope comes when white ends.
