Mmm. Florida. I have visited a few times. I lived in the south for most of my adult life in 3 states: GA, TX, and La. I don’t think I ever understood Florida but it makes sense now after reading your response. Total sense. And it has some rural parts too. The passing privilege or white approximate privilege is at work. It would not surprise me if whiteness fully consolidated with Latinos and Hispanics to redefine/reclassify itself. I heard today the state’s attorney charged the killer mentioned in this story. I hope they make an example.
