Oh, thank you so much Emily this is such a meaningful response. It is hard to create and share content online. People can be brutal, haha. Often I am scratching my head and exploring questions with a story. I look at my stories as snapshots. They are about changing subjects and they aren’t complete pictures. I am a new writer. I’ve been here since November 2017. Medium is my full-time job. (My partner pays the big bills.) In the past, I did media and community outreach for a government agency. But before writing here, I had considered myself more of a speaker. So, I try to write the way I speak, but I understand how it can be cheesy to some. Most of all, I try to write for the eyes and the ears because that’s what I enjoy. And, my process includes listening to every piece a few times before I publish. I have a great respect for poetry, spoken word, I was a music major briefly, and a lay preacher for two years! Hah. I’m still finding my voice as a writer.
