On accepted, let me quote you James Baldwin from My Dungeon Shook writing to his nephew: There is no reason for you to try to become like white people and there is no basis whatever for their impertinent assumption that they must accept you. The really terrible thing, old buddy, is that you must accept them. And I mean that very seriously. You must accept them and accept them with love. I’m not writing for the acceptance of white people. I’m writing to accept the unacceptable without exploding. What makes you think you need to assess and address everyone’s motives? Now, let’s turn to the chapter and verse by Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom, in her essay Know Your Whites: “knowing your whites is to be intimate with some white persons, while critically withholding faith in white people categorically.” Trust me, Ken Kamami, I got all of that.
