Republicans Think Javelins for Ukraine Are Black Unemployment Numbers and Criminal Justice Reform
The Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, particularly Elise Stefanik, insist the Trump administration has been better for Ukraine than the Obama administration. According to the tacky talking point, the Obama administration gave Ukraine blankets and the Trump administration gave Ukraine javelins. According to the racist reality, everyone should recognize and reject those familiar attempts to wipe clean the fingerprints of thuggery.
Those assertions by Republicans are bare and partial facts with no backs. They’re flimsy statements that people stand up to defend their positions. They’re points yanked out of context that people dangle to distract.
This is the white party working to secure white innocence under the banner of white benevolence. This is the white party seeking to decriminalize white villains and make white knights. And this is the white party demanding gratitude as it points out what it did for you and says you should want to do for yourself what it expects you to do.
This is familiar. It’s Trump saying he’s not a racist because of Black unemployment numbers and criminal justice reform. It’s an effort to make Trump a savior who deserves gratitude.
This is a regular script for the white party and its leader.
But nothing can exonerate the president of whiteness. Unemployment numbers can’t clean up the source of hate crimes. A criminal justice act can’t remove white supremacists from the White House and other federal agencies.
Similarly, you can’t demand President Zelensky do the very thing he vowed to eradicate from his country, say Ukraine’s not a real country, and then say Zelensky should want to do the investigations for himself. You can’t hold 400 million dollars, as a squeeze on an ailing ally — then only release the funds because you felt pressure on your wrist — and then congratulate yourself as the best administration ever because you let go of your death grip. Those javelins can’t cancel the bribery and the extortion, especially as they sit unused and housed away from the battlefield based on US policy.
There’s more here that’s familiar. This is a foreign policy that says “sons of bitches” as a national anthem; this is a foreign policy that says “What the hell do you have to lose?” This is a regular script for the white party and its leader.
To make himself look good, Trump tries to use what he despises. But these efforts serve more than Trump; they keep white consciences white. White consciences can only be comfortable because they can’t be clear.
