So many good things here! I was just drafting something about the inconsistency of freedoms with the Nazi salute class photo. On rehashing racism, that is my personal thing. Others may disagree. Some people may think, “who does that?” But it happens too much. In my story, the lady said something racist in part because she wanted to take a trip down memory lane. For me, unless the rehash has some insight or solution, I don’t need to hear it. More often than not, it leads white people to defend how they aren’t racist, display guilt, or dismissively say how far we’ve come. None of which helps me; all of which irritates me. I prefer someone who will listen, hear, amplify, and answer any questions I have. Generational trauma is real genetically, mentally, and materially. There’s enough to traumatize, I don’t need more!
