Sorry for the multiple responses! Clearly, I am still thinking about your response. I want to respond to the part “this sort of thing was said by a white American class...” I think that’s how the piece is subversive and works against power. Whiteness has always said some other group isn’t compatible, isn’t fit, isn’t suitable, is savage, is uncivilized, and is a problem. This is me saying whiteness is savage and uncivilized. Whiteness, in my view, is exactly what it says it isn’t. So, I don’t see this as whites said it, so it can’t be true of whiteness. Rather, when whites called indigenous people savages, the savages were really the whites. So, you’re right to pick up on this part and that’s part of what the piece is doing.
