There’s a great book on this subject: The Invention of the White Race. That’s the title of the book. It’s two volumes. By the late scholar Ted Allen. He looks at colonial records and history to trace the invention of the white race. Du Bois also wrote about personal whiteness meaning a very recent phenomenon. Baldwin said being white was a moral choice in his essay, On Being White and Other Lies. Please know that I spend a lot of time reading and studying this subject. I don’t write my words alone. I very much try to connect them to other thinkers and history.
