This goes to my thought about race itself being a form and function of colonization. “Race” and racism are profitable. Toni Morrison said it would disappear when it’s no longer profitable and psychologically useful. Specifically, the dominance of menthol cigarettes in the Black community comes from corporations profiting from segregation. I’ve done some research on that. Religion is an example of control. So, if your question or suggestion is that “some” of Black culture is rigged to control. I’d say possibly. But in general, I don’t see Black culture as a controlling feature of whiteness/elites. It’s there. The whiteness is there. And whiteness is always controlling. But with culture, it’s not in the sense that culture holds people back as a controlling force. Culture is getting us through. Black culture is often used to resist. Other mechanisms of oppression target Black people. Whiteness/elites create and enforce conditions to exploit, control, rationalize, and blame. That’s what I’m thinking. But even if I’m wrong, that wouldn’t change the focus and the goal to end whiteness.
