This is my most salient response. Much of your message calls for some type of egalitarianism. It sounds nice, but that is not the way race works. I could quote you a number of thinkers, historians, and scholars who say race is hierarchical and not horizontal. When you depoliticize race or try to give it some “two-way quality” before there’s been justice, you only serve whiteness. We haven’t got justice yet. There is no white innocence. Until there’s justice, indictments about whiteness shall go up and out continuously. You can try to countersue, but it’s really frivolous in the scope of things. Justice is necessary. If there are things you can’t say, so be it. If you have to worry about what you say, so be it. You must suffer with whatever you feel until there’s been justice. Welcome. Let those feelings be your motivation for justice. Join the movement. I recommend you support the entire platform for the Movement for Black Lives. Support reparations. Call your representative. It’s insulting to suggest there can be any two ways about this without justice. This country halfway apologized for slavery only in 2008! Ninety percent of all elected leaders in this country are white! The list is long. And you want to have two sides? It’s as if you are calling for some sort of civility or suggesting someone is uncivilized! Focus on justice.
