This scene is so classic. And the sucker parent to Baby Karen is also classically white—it’s Northern whites vs. Southern whites; it’s good whites vs. bad whites; it’s Democrats vs. Republicans. One side is always the sucker who gives up too early. One side thinks somehow things will be different this time. One side wants to reconcile. One side compromises the most. One side hopes to be bipartisan. And the other side wins again and again. I think this is fundamentally the way many whites interact with each other. This is white governance in America. I think it does go back to parenting.
