Well, you have not read enough of me or I haven’t been clear. Let me do so now: The entire construct of race must go. Racism made race. Race is an evidence of racism. It’s only appropriate use is for justice which is exactly where the courts don’t want it. As evidence, we can’t destroy or disregard race until there’s justice. I side with Baldwin on race — who said it is a political reality. I side with D. Roberts — who said race is a political identity like citizenship. I side with Fields and Painter — who say the first principle of racism is the belief in races. I side with Coates on race — who said race is not who we really are but what someone did; it’s a verb and a made thing. I side with powell and Morrison — who talk about being “raced.” I side with Haney-López — who said whiteness is the lynchpin of “racial meaning.” I side with McMillan Cottom — who said the goal of antiracist work is to end whiteness. I side with Glickman — who suggests that we shouldn’t stabilize race and that race cannot have both positive and negative valences. I don’t even like to use the word “racial.” Most often, we can say racist instead of “racial.” Hope this is clear! Thanks for your comment.
