Wow, restaurant owner fact! Nice. Yeah, this was rough. I talked to a few people about it before I wrote. I saw this online initially and my first thought was, well, anti-Blackness comes in many shades. Then, the rest came out. I should say, I didn’t mean to engage in whataboutism here. I often point to one thing to make a larger point. Certainly, the movie about the Green Book is still on my mind. You’re right people are holding this guy up as an example. I pay them no mind. Often, they are the same people who make excuses when there is actual evidence. I did see others, including Black folks, who called out Masud with evidence. That’s good. With restaurant racism, it hits on so many levels to several groups. Even the customers join in against servers and other customers. And then, there’s the police. Overall, I’d like the industry to take on the issue with tipping. I’d like America to get serious about the wealth gap and poverty, and I’d like America to do more with antiracism education. I didn’t get to share those thoughts in this piece. Even with those, people will still do what they do.
