Yes, and many secular leaders who have roots in the church have taken great stands recently. The NAACP, the late Coretta Scott King, Obama, Dr. West, Coates, Ben Jealous, Julian Bond, Al Sharpton, and others. Somehow the church got left behind, maybe because it is so given to patriarchy. Perhaps, if Dr. King had lived longer that bridge would have been built, because Obama did move the needle. We have to take responsibility, and we can’t lose sight of the origins of this hate. Overall, I am optimistic because the Pew Research polls show that every religious demographic is growing in support — even the most opposed — white evangelicals, Jehovah Witnesses, and Mormons.
