Yes, Sherry, yes. I was stunned in the moment. And it all happened so fast. I couldn’t let the word go unchecked. So, I basically defaulted to a line in one of my stories about nakedness and indecent exposure and the n-word. I said it very seriously. Maybe I should’ve been more direct, like — please don’t say that word in my presence. But what came out, came out. I process pretty slowly in person. It’s hard for me to go zero to 10. Perhaps that is learned or my personality. Maybe both. But I stew and chew and then explode. Like I’ve said, she’s sharp. She’s experienced a lot of social and technological changes. The acceptable names for Black people have changed at least three or four times in her lifetime. I just can’t believe she’s said that before and no one has corrected her. Hopefully, this won’t happen again with her!
