You know, the more I think about this the more it upsets me. I spoke to my partner about it this morning. He said I was visibly upset and jumped on it before she got out the r. It feels like I blacked out after that because I can’t remember how it transitioned. I give her no grace. Like I’ve said, the acceptable terms for Black people have changed at least 3 times in her lifetime. I have serious doubts she would’ve said that around more Black people. And she could’ve said, “I have never used racial slurs.” That would’ve said it all! But the other issue here is a white person trying to prove they aren’t racist. That’s where she got herself into a mess. And unfortunately, that’s a common mess. Plus, after I said what I said, she could have apologized or emphasized something else. She didn’t. That says a lot on a human and decency level. So, she lost me twice there.
