When I was working this piece, I had the media in my mind but due to the length of this piece, 8 mins when I usually write 4 mins, I didn’t include more. Separate from journalism, the entertainment industry is a key figure that creates and reproduces. And it too has no accountability. With your point, I’m thinking about the minstrel shows and all the racist products about Black people for white audiences. Of course, the media had a role then too. Every sector in US society worked, and still works, to create and sustain anti-Blackness. So, it makes sense that multiple sectors and industries work to create and sustain Transphobia. Pop culture is a big one.
